Long article full of a lot of sociological jargon. All in all this article is straight racist. Since many of you won’t want to read the whole thing I’ll just pull out bits and pieces (trying my best to keep them in context).
Favorite part of the article by far is that the author refers to a quote by a user named BigTittieCommittee. No joke. Now one of the cruxes of the article is that black women and their bodies are strictly associated with sexual stuff and Miley is playing into that stereotype by acting “black” and sexual. Now correct me if I’m wrong, but BigTittieCommittee sounds pretty sexual to me. Kind of hypocritical to be posting about abuse of sexuality with that username.
Second point: Miley wanted a “black sound”, picked urban music and ignored Jazz influences and what not. “because that is, apparently, the entirety of black culture, and it represents all black people everywhere, regardless of individual experience.” Right. Cause if anyone wants to draw from any other culture they must do so by pulling from every aspect of that culture ever. Does this mean white jazz musicians are racist for not incorporating rap into their performances? Misrepresenting black music culture everywhere by ignoring rap.
Final point: “It’s not that we can’t share. It’s that until such time as black people are not ridiculed and debased for the styles and music and lifestyle that they create, live and breathe, hands off. Until such time as black fashion, art and music can become mainstream without having to be passed through a white filter, hands off.”
I mean thats just straight racism. Like seriously? White people can’t twerk because black people invented it? Nonsensical. I didn’t hear anyone yell at me for doing the soulja boy? Well, they did but it was merely to comment that I was bad at it, not racist. And Lil’ Wayne didn’t pass through a “white filter” as far as I know, yet he is by all accounts the most famous rapper alive today.
White and black are dumb distinctions. We are human beings. If people think its cool they’re going to do it. I think most white people were offended by Miley’s performance or at least think it was attention seeking. No one was enamored by it. In closing if Miley is racist I think this guy is too:
Cultural appropriation all over the place
